Peruvian Edward Mango Enters the Republic of Korea for the First Time

SEOUL -- Peru marks a new milestone in its agricultural exports with the introduction of the Edward mango variety to the Korean market.

LATIDA, Dolefarmer, and Dominus are leading this strategic initiative, which complements the already well-established presence of Kent mangoes in Asia.

The Republic of Korea —the fifth-largest country in terms of per-capita consumption of Peruvian mangoes— projects an initial demand of 1000 boxes per week of this variety, renowned for its intense aroma, firm texture, and balanced sweetness.

LATIDA’s CEO, Mr. Juwon Sul, highlighted the market’s enthusiasm: “Peruvian mangoes are so highly sought after in Korea that we decided to move ahead of the Kent season and introduce a new variety. Korean consumers appreciate consistency, aroma, and visual appeal, and Edward exceeds those expectations. Peru’s climate and altitude give it a firmer texture and a cleaner sweetness.”

In Korea, mangoes are positioned as a high-end exotic fruit, associated with wellness and special moments. During festive seasons such as Christmas, it is customary to gift premium fruit as a symbol of respect and appreciation —a category in which mangoes, along with Peruvian avocados, hold a privileged place.

This new entry, supported by PROMPERÚ through its Commercial Office in Korea, seeks to diversify Peru’s export offerings, expand the presence of its products, and reinforce the country’s leadership as a reliable supplier in the Asian market.

The representative of PROMPERÚ in Korea emphasized: By adapting to the culture and expectations of Korean consumers, we aim to showcase —through mangoes and other Peruvian products— the richness of Peru and all that it conveys.

Additionally, PROMPERÚ has identified three new development sectors for 2026, including the promotion of Peruvian ingredients in the global K-beauty industry.

On this point, Silva-Santisteban added: “We will work closely with importers —the key partners of our exporters— to define the aspirational value of each product and to segment our campaigns accordingly.”

The entry of the Peruvian Edward mango into Korea represents a significant step forward for Peru’s agricultural export sector, further strengthening its reputation for quality, diversity, and excellence in Asia.
